IS TOO MUCH KNOWLEDGE DANGEROUS?

In a lecture I attended by Rollo May, the famous existential psychoanalyst, he asked the audience an ancient question: How much truth can we humans tolerate? The Greek poets and playwrights, the authors of the Bible, Shakespeare, every great writer, poet and philosopher, every great musician, and artist; Freud and Satre, asked us to consider this very difficult question. And the answer is not always sanguine, my dear Oedipus Rex. How much truth can we, my dearly beloved bros', tolerate in our search for beauty ? How much intellectual integrity should we demand from the audio arts? How high is our musical taste? Can truth and passion co-exist? How much truth can we tolerate in the creation of our illusion?

Ask yourself this question while puffing a fine cigar and drinking brandy and listening to some Bach Cello Suites played by Mistlav Rostipovich.

Or turn the question around and ask yourself…"How can illusion stimulate my search for truth?"…which the is question fundamental to all art.

In the world of audio, which for most is the low road of shopping hysteria, the complexity of musical consciousness is too heavy a burden.

Men who have no sense of their own inner musical truth, must externalize and rely on other men to tell them what to wear, what to think, what to listen to, and how to feel comfortable with nice tight limitations of experience. This is cool, because not every man is capable of freedom…according to the great philosopher and Eric Fromm, in his book, ESCAPE FROM FREEDOM.

Of course the Internet has liberated your higher IQ music intellect, because you now have unlimited resources to help you discover just how common your passion for music quality is…and why you are a member of a growing gang of men who demand the highest standard of thought and intellectual agitation, and illusion.

THE QUALITY OF OUR ILLUSIONS MATTER

How dangerous is knowledge? It is lethal to those who want to limit our imagination and freedom of expression. It has also been lethal to prevailing audio orthodoxy…

YOU WILL NOTE THAT I WILL REMIND YOU TO CONSIDER THIS BANNER QUESTION MANY TIMES IN OTHER ARTICLES BECAUSE THE AUDIO ARTIFICATION PROCESS TAKES LOTS OF COURAGE…AND THAT AINT EASY.

Now… I am not stupid, and I recognize how we men often want simple answers to complex questions….. so here is a great suggestion that works…for me…and it satisfies my need for a simple answer to a very complex question:

Just ask your butcher what kind of steak you should barbecue for dinner.
